Miss Ava Dougherty

Ms. Ava Dougherty began her Taekwondo training under Master Stolsig and Master (then Mr.) Ocampo at the Thousand Oaks location at the age of 8. The studio was always a second home for her, but after receiving her black belt at age 12 she took a break from martial arts…for 7 years. After a friend dragged her back into the studio for an impulsive sparring class at age 18, she re-found her second home and has been dedicated to her passion ever since. It is never too late to start, restart, and feed the flame of a passion! She has since earned her 2nd Degree Black Belt and became an assistant instructor for not just Taekwondo but for Thousand Oaks’ very own iKali Program ran by Master Ocampo.

After transferring from Moorpark College, Ms. Ava is now working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and Music with a Minor in Developmental Psychology at CSU Channel Islands. If she’s not at the studio or school, she’s probably making music in her room or in a different kind of studio with her guitar.

She hopes little girls can look at her and know that girls can do anything with hard work and a big heart. Her goal is to grow our students’ skills and confidence; and to make the studio- Tae Ryong, a second home for everyone!
